Memory Drawings

A drawing which is created using the objects, places and situations from our memory is called a memory drawing. This can be explained as a pictorial form of representation of anything that we have seen earlier or can visualize. As a memory drawing is more like a visual representation of our skills to observe, imagine and create, the final output depends largely upon the accuracy of our visual perceptions, memory and our ability to create it on the paper.

In architecture and design entrance exams, usually a particular situation is given to the student to generate a view using the elements from memory or imagination, like a view of a railway station, a bus stop, a school, hospital, park etc. The situation may sometimes be changed to a bird's or ant's eye view in which the student is supposed to visualize the scene from an upper or lower position. Generally memory drawing sketches are drawn in perspective views to create the effect of depth and distance in the scene.
